Once again the action and caliber of professional rodeo athletes here at the Hamel Bull Riding Bonanza and Rodeo was unprecedented as round two took place underneath the Friday night lights.  After a round one performance that set the tone for the next four rounds tonight’s second round of action lived up to the hype and anticipation.  From some near-record scores to some outlandish hang-ups those fans in attendance tonight would not go home disappointed!

Once things were all said and done here tonight the overall leaderboard looked almost the same as it did after round one just a night before.  That being said there were some changes to the standings that we will go over as clearly as possible.  Bareback riding had only three qualified rides while Shane O’Connell still sits atop the leaderboard.  The big boys of steer wrestling had a rough night but Justin Morehouse would match the 4.0-second run that splits the lead while a new leader, Tyler Milligan, laid down an 8.8 second run in the tie-down roping.  There were no changes to the leaderboard in the saddle bronc riding and we welcomed the legendary Sherry Cervi to the arena tonight but the leader would not change here in round two.

Team Ropers Erich Rogers And Cory Petska Sit In The Lead

When we talk about the deck being stacked here in Hamel, Minnesota there is one team roping team that comes to mind, Erich Rogers and Cory Petska, who together have numerous Wrangler National Finals Rodeo qualifications.  During Thursday morning slack they laid down a blazing 4.0-second run to sit comfortably in the number one position coming into last night’s second and final run.  These two were the fastest last night too putting together a 4.7-second run which will be hard to beat as they have now completed their two-run event here in Hamel.

Prior to the second round I was able to catch up with Erich Rogers and have a little fun with him as we take you behind the scenes and give you all a little extra fun feature.  We were invited into his home away from home as he allowed us into his life on the road and into his Elite trailer.  Take a look at this walk through of his rig as Erich shows us all the functions and features of his new 2017 Elite trailer and beautiful truck sponsored by Earnhardt Motors!

PRCA Saddle Bronc Rider Isaac Diaz

Tonight’s second round featured some of the best of the best in the saddle bronc riding event as both Jacobs and Sterling Crawley would make their mark on the Midwest along with another Wrangler National Finals qualifier, Isaac Diaz.  Tonight he was able to fight the inevitable and make the best out of a bad situation to earn a 78.50 point ride aboard J Bar J’s horse Faded Charm.  After a match of wills inside of the chute, Diaz was finally able to nod his head and complete his ride to put a score up on the board.

Following his ride last night, I was able to catch up with him to get his reaction to how things went down out in the arena and his response is that of a true cowboy.  He spoke about how it is the luck of the draw and how everyone in the arena helped him get out of the chute gate safely.  We also talk about the little things that can make a qualified ride smooth sailing or one of the worst trips you have ever taken in your life.  See what he has to say about all of this in our post-ride interview below.
