After an emotional and history-making weekend in Billings just two weeks ago, the top 35 bull riders in the world once again continue their quest towards that world championship title and the one million dollar payday that awaits them this coming November. That being said as we head into this weekend’s event here in Tacoma, Washington we will see some extended action as well as the final push to the end of the first half of the Built Ford Tough Series season as the summer break awaits them.
After this weekend is concluded there is only one event remaining as we head to Sin City for, yet another, PBR Major takes place with the Last Cowboy Standing event that is being held in conjunction with the PRCA’s Helldorado Days Rodeo festivities. The summer break will give the cowboys sitting on the bubble some time to hit the touring pro division and earn some points while others will take the much-needed time off to heal the ailments that they continue to have and come back strong and healed.

As the fans began to stroll into the Tacoma Dome for the 2017 Tacoma Invitational everyone knew that history could once again be made down on the arena floor as one of the fan favorites strive for something that only two others had accomplished before him. The feat of making it to the 500 career Built Ford Tough Series ride mark would not be easy but is absolutely possible here this weekend for J.B. Mauney. He comes into the weekend with 496 career qualified rides and needs to be perfect for that historic moment to happen here in Tacoma. Saying that, we can not count him out as he has hit is hot streak as of late and is laser focused on making it to that mark before the summer break with only two events remaining.
Although the notion that Mauney could make history there were 34 other bull riders looking to make their own marks as the first round began. The “rider-friendly” pen of bovine athletes should allow for the sold-out crowd to see many qualified rides. Once the action concluded there would be a total of 18 out of the 35 bull riders here that would be able to carry a qualified ride score over to tomorrow afternoon’s round two performance. After all was said and done, Stormy Wing would be the man on top of the field after covering High View Cattle Co. / Jenkins Cattle Company’s Locke & Loaded for 88.75 points to take the round one win and the lead heading forward here in Tacoma!
