As the birds started to chirp and the sun began to rise on the final Championship Sunday of the 2016 Professional Bull Riders Built Ford Tough regular season the anxiety was at an all time high.  After today’s final two rounds of competition all questions would be answered as to who would make their way to Las Vegas and who would come up just short of competing at the World Finals would be answered.  All eyes would be on the close race at the bottom as many athletes jockey for position within the top 35 spots in the world standings.

Last night was a gut check for many of those riders on the bubble and from their performances each and every one of them knew the dynamic of what could happen after this weekend’s Take The Money And Ride event.  One of those men showed up big time after claiming the round one victory with a staggering 87.25 point ride.  Canadian Ty Pozzobon charged up the world standings after gaining 100 points last night which put him solidly in 32nd position heading into the final day of the 2016 regular season!

Once things began down on the arena floor the sold out crowd came alive inside of the Tucson Convention Center.  Everyone watching knew that this fateful day would be the last chance they had to either secure their spot or climb inside of the top 35 bull riders in the world standings earning them a trip to Las Vegas just one week from now.  Last night we all witnessed many of the bubble cowboys make qualified rides which set them up for greatness here this afternoon.

Today’s pen of bovine athletes was much different than we saw less than 24 hours ago as many notable names in the bucking bull business returned to the arena floor.  That being said, last night there were 15 of the 35 contestants that were able to make the required 8 second ride but tonight these cowboys carried the momentum into tonight while a staggering 21 were able to do that very same thing.  After all the scores were calculated it would end up being Lachlan Richardson who would outlast the rest of the field to take home the round two win with an 89.75 point ride aboard BMC Bucking Bulls/Jeff Robinson’s King Buck.  This round win carried him to the championship round where he would have a chance at winning the Cooper Tires Take The Money And Ride event here in Tucson!

Once the first two rounds of competition were in the books the feeling inside of the arena involved a wide range of emotions.  For those that guaranteed their spot at the World Finals the moment that it became a realization made them overflow with excitement but another set of emotions were playing out as well.  Many of these contestants have figured out that they had just missed their chance to head to Las Vegas by a mere few points.  Both of these emotions could be seen and felt throughout the arena.

For those 15 contestants that had a weekend to remember it was time for the last championship round of the regular season.  This was going to be the last chance to earn some points and cement their opportunity to make their way west next week.  Tonight there were 6 that would be able to last the required 8 seconds to earn a qualified ride.  The one ride that would be remembered heading into Las Vegas would be the round winning ride that Kaique Pacheco and Rocking I Rodeo Company’s Crazy Horse put together for a huge 90.25 point ride and the 100 championship leader board points which gave him back the world number one position!

This afternoon’s final two rounds provided nothing but absolute excitement for the sold out crowd that filled the Tucson Convention Center to its capacity.  The moment that the in arena announcers stepped up on top of the shark cage in the center of the arena made the statement that the 2016 Professional Bull Riders Built Ford Tough Series season was officially over.  This would be the last time this year that an event winner would be a part of the iconic interview of the regular season as the World Finals Week festivities begin this coming Friday night from the South Point Hotel and Casino!

That man that would make his mark in the 2016 record books would be non other than Chase Outlaw who would claim the last event win of the 2016 season.  This cowboy will be heading into the PBR World Finals on a high after dominating the entire field here this weekend.  He would be 3 for 3 and put together a very solid 261.75 points while taking home a total of 542.50 world championship point standings putting him in the number 23 spot heading into Vegas!
