On this anticipated Saturday night, the SAP Center in San Jose, California was going to be filled with thousands of Professional Bull Riders Built Ford Tough Series fans waiting to see some of the very best in bull riding talent contend for a world championship title. This is the customary last event of the 2017 PBR BFTS regular season so the action that will be displayed down on the arena floor would be some of the most heartening we have seen yet this season. Each and every one of the 35 bull riders here this weekend knew it was the last chance that they would have to move up the world standings, or make it within the top 35 in the world standings, as they make their way to Las Vegas for the 2017 PBR World Finals.
Tonight, the fans that would file in expected to see a huge round where big moves would be made, setting up tomorrow afternoon’s final day of the regular season as one for the record books. Along with the crowd-pleasing announcement that we all heard last weekend, that J.B. Mauney was making his return at the World Finals, there was another fan favorite that was set to make his return here in San Jose. Matt Triplett would step inside of the arena once again as he charges towards the 2017 PBR World Finals healthy and full of confidence!

Once the opening ceremonies were concluded it was time for the lights to shine brightly down on the arena floor as the last event of the 2017 regular season was set to begin. Tonight, round one of the Cooper Tires Take The Money And Ride event presented by Wrangler was taking center stage in a weekend where major changes could happen in the tightest world title race we have ever seen. The top five bull riders in the world are separated by a mere 552.50 points which could be made up right here in San Jose with an event win, making it within reach of any of these five bull riders to leave here in the world number one position!
As things began to happen it was quickly apparent that the top 35 bull riders here this weekend came to put on a display of amazing bull riding talent. That being said, the bovine athletes that were here tonight also tried to make an impression on Cody Lambert, the Director of PBR Livestock, as he begins to make his final picks for those bucking bulls that would be invited to compete in Las Vegas. Overall, the talent on both side of the fence gave us all a whole lot to cheer about but when things were all concluded there would be a total of 20 of the top 35 bull riders that would manage to make the eight-second buzzer for a qualified ride. Tonight, Derek Kolbaba would stand atop the shark cage after beating all others with a nice 88 point bull ride to win round one atop EVP Bucking Bulls’ Hitman to head into tomorrow afternoon’s finals regular season rounds with the determination he would need to finish strong!

With one day remaining in the 2017 Professional Bull Riders Built Ford Tough Series season the race at both the top and bottom of the standings are as tight as we have ever seen them this late in the season. After a heated round one earlier tonight, the stage is set for the final shoot-out at the OK Corral tomorrow afternoon as the sun sets on the regular season here in San Jose, California. The deck is stacked to a huge amount of qualified rides on the final day as a shake-up is almost guaranteed as the top 35 bull riders in the world work towards their invitation to the 2017 PBR World Finals in less than two weeks!
It will be interesting to see what the world standings look like after tomorrow afternoon’s championship round, specifically the top five in the world. Just one year ago the reigning and defending PBR World Champion, Cooper Davis, began his dominance here in San Jose that would propel him to his first ever world title. Coming into today’s round one he was sitting in the number two position, less than one event away from taking over the world number one spot. Can he do it again this year and head into the finals just the same way as he did last year to retain his world title? Only time will tell and we will all be able to witness history once again as the World Finals start November 1st, 2017 LIVE from Las Vegas!
