news and notes prca

This past week has been a memory making week for one particular Professional Rodeo Cowboy Association saddle bronc rider as well as the PRCA as a whole.  With the busy part of the rodeo season upon us it is the prime time for the contestants to step up and make a huge impact in the world standings and help their chances at making it to this year’s Wrangler National Finals Rodeo.  The PRCA is also exploring options to give all the contestants many more opportunities to make the cash they need by exploring a very interesting option of expanding PRCA events in another country!

PRCA Saddle Bronc Rider Jacobs Crawley

Jacobs Crawley made his own history after winning the Clovis Rodeo with the best saddle bronc ride of his nine-year career.  Knowing for about a week before the fateful night what horse he drew for the round made Jacobs both nervous and excited and it was well worth the butterflies in his stomach when he recorded a career best 92 point ride aboard Burch Rodeo’s Lunatic From Hell.  Along with his best score of his career he earned a whopping total of $5,753 for the event win.

Looking back on the ride of his life and the Clovis Rodeo win Jacobs said, “I always thought he looked awesome, and like one that a guy would love to have”  He also reflected on his trip on this legendary horse by saying, “When I drew him, I didn’t even care if I won the rodeo, I just wanted to cross him off my bucket list of horses. It’s exciting to know that horses like this exist, and it sure makes a cowboy smile to know these kind of rides are possible.”

Even with all the big wins and career records made over the last week another very interesting and exciting announcement was made this week regarding the Professional Rodeo Cowboy Association and our neighbors to the the south, Mexico!  PRCA Commissioner Karl Stressman and Mark Knapp, part of the PRCA’s Rodeo Administration, made their way to Chihuahua for a five-day visit to search out and find suitable locations for a possible move to bring PRCA sanctioned events to Mexico.  This is a very interesting development and will be fun to watch as things progress further throughout the year to make rodeos in Mexico a reality!
