Presidential Candidate Mike Huckabee
One never knows who you might have walking into the media room during a Professional Rodeo Cowboy Association’s Wrangler National Finals Rodeo. This past year, at the 2015 event, I was asked if I would be interested in sitting down to talk to presidential candidate Mike Huckabee at which I jumped at the opportunity to do so. I try to to be political but I am always striving to get a different perspective on the rodeo industry and the western lifestyle from fans of professional rodeo. This one just happened to be in the spotlight and focused our conversation on the political side of what he thinks our industry stands for and it was very interesting the hear that side of thinking.
I understand that everyone has their own opinions about the candidates this year, just as I do, but regardless of your political views the time that I got to spend with Huckabee brought up some interesting points as well as some laughs and stabs courtesy of his wording and our rodeo industry and western lifestyle. To say it was a special time for the Rodeo Round Up and myself to be able to have this opportunity would be an understatement. He is a very candid man once you get him to feel comfortable and let him open up a bit!

I got the chance to talk about how excited he was to, once again, be on hand for the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo and get his take on the action that had taken place so far. It is nice to see a man of his status so excited for what the industry stands for and talk about his favorite rodeo athletes and moments from past WNFRs. We could not go through the entire interview without talking about some political aspects since he is running for the office of President of the United States. What he had to say was quite unexpected and made for some hilarious moments that caused the entire media room to laugh uncontrolably!!
During our conversation we talked about the terrorist problems that we have in our country today as well as what is happening regarding our veterans returning home from tours of duty protecting our freedoms that we cherish each and everyday. The fun part about the responses to these questions was how Huckabee wrapped them into talking about the rodeo industry and the western way of life. Like I said before everyone will have their own views and political beliefs but to hear what Mike Huckabee had to say while being candid at the same time was something that the Rodeo Round Up was very honored to be a part of.
