Now that the 2015 Wrangler National Finals Rodeo is in the books and the World Champions have been crowned it is time to focus, once again, on the weekly Professional Rodeo Cowboy Association’s weekly updates and notes.  From the looks of things there have been some major changes that have happened and that are being implemented early on in the 2016 professional rodeo season.  Although it is extremely early on in the season with not much happening there are some notable things worth mentioning.

co sanction

In a historic time for the world of professional rodeo it was announced late last year that the Professional Rodeo Cowboy Association and the Mexican Rodeo Federation came to an agreement to begin co-sanctioning rodeo performances early on in the 2016 rodeo season.  It was announced this week that the first event will take place February 13th and 14th as the Rodeo Wrangler Inico De Tempo Rada in Chihuahua takes center stage.  This inaugural event will include a committee purse of a guaranteed $3,290 in prize money.

PRCA Steer Wrestler Bray Armes

After missing a Wrangler National Finals Rodeo appearance by a mere $166.00 coming up just short of the fifteenth spot held by Blake Knowles Bray Armes has his sights on making sure that does not happen to him again during the 2016 season.  Armes who hazed for fellow competitor Casey Martin during the first four rounds of the 2015 WNFR until his horse sustained an injury that took him out of action.  After working the action from that angle he had a fire lit inside of him to make it back as a contestant to make a run for his own World Championship title.

Armes did exactly what he had to do this past week at the RAM Texas Circuit Finals Rodeo in Waco, Texas.  The event which ran from December 31st through January 2nd helped him get the start of the 2016 season off the way he had hoped.  He put together 3 fantastic runs to win the average title for the second time in his career (2004) putting togheter a total time of 13.1 seconds.  The average win gained him an automatic spot at the Ram National Circuit Finals Rodeo in April.
