PBR page picture

As we wind down the second annual First PREMIER Bank/PREMIER Bankcard Invitational here in Sioux Falls, South Dakota we could not close the curtain on the event without what happened earlier this afternoon as Championship Sunday began.  Today capped off an already amazing and history making tour stop for the 2016 Professional Bull Riders Built Ford Tough Series.  This will surely be an event that the loyal fans of the PBR will talk about for years to come.

After a weekend where the PBR had to add another day to the event due to complete sell outs, making history for the first time as a total of six countries had contestants and fans got to see five rounds of competition instead of the traditional four with an exciting 15/15 Bucking Battle round that added to all the excitement of the weekend.  I know not only the fans here in Sioux Falls are excited for another event next year but the level of enthusiasm that was in and around the locker room tell all of us that the bull riders and staff of the PBR will be excited to come back as well!

Jess Lockwood Claims Victory In Round Three

Once the doors opened to the Denny Sandford Premier Center the fans that came to watch Championship Sunday live were full of excitement as things slowly began to happen down on the arena floor.  From the beautiful Ford trucks that were in the arena to the legendary shark cage in the center those in attendance were taking pictures, making new friends and sharing these exciting memories with their loved ones they brought with them.  All of this was leading up to the grand opening of championship day here in Sioux Falls, South Dakota!

After the opening ceremonies concluded it was time for the top 35 bull riders in the world to go head to head to set the field for the championship round that was to come later in the day.  From the very first opening of the chute gates to the very last buck off round three was one that would leave the fans on the edge of their seats with excitement.  In the end  would be able to make the buzzer but no one could match the will and effort of newcomer Jess Lockwood as he claimed victory in round three with an 88.25 point ride aboard Cornwell Bucking Bull’s Tom Horn.

Mike Lee Dominates The Championship Round

In  the championship round the top fifteen bull riders from the first three rounds of competition would be invited back to match up with some of the rankest bucking stock in the business today.  From the get go it was established that the bulls of the PBR would put forth their best efforts and give the cowboys all that they could handle as the rides were very few and far between.  Keeping that in mind there were still 3 bull riders that managed to conquer their bovine competitors and earn a qualified ride to put a score on the board.

Even though the rides that were made were incredible, Mike Lee, Kaique Pacheco and Ryan Dirteater, no one could match up to what Mike Lee did in this championship round.  He paired up with Dakota Rodeo / Chad Berger / Clay Struve / H&C Bucking Bulls’ Wipeout to earn a huge 89.25 point score and ultimately win the championship round.  Even after the excitement of the championship round there was still one more title to be given out and that would be the overall event title here in Sioux Falls.

That being said it would be Kaique Pacheco who would claim that honor going 4 for 4 earning a total score of 329 points to come out atop the leader board for the weekend!  He would end up being the only man out of the top 35 bull riders in the world to be able to go a perfect 4-for-4 in Sioux Falls.  The 2015 Rookie of the Year is making a strong impression once again in 2016 and continues to move up the leader board with consistency and great wins like this one here this weekend!
