Jess Lockwood Claims Second PBR World Championship Title

November 11, 2019 By cowboy

We always end the PBR season saying “well, that was one for the books”.  This year was really one of those years that people will be talking about for the next few years!  The injuries, the new tours, the new players and of course, the young guns that made it to the top while many of the old familiar players sank out of sight or just never made it to the finals.

Reminding some of us of “the good old days” when the top bull riders in las Vegas for the World Finals had to have an escort to get into the celebrations because they were held in a place that served alcohol!

2019 PBR Champ Jess Lockwood

Jess Lockwood Does it Again

Not that it really matters what else happened this year at the 2019 PBR World Finals, the only thing most people will remember was that a young kid named Jess Lockwood came into T-Mobile Arena  full of piss n vinegar and walked away with the girl, a check for $1 million (World Champion) and a check for $300,000 (event winner).  Oh, yea, and a belt buckle naming him the new king of the PBR cowboys for the second time.  At 22, it makes him the youngest two-timer in the history of the sport.

Jess Lockwood and the bulls

Making it look easy

Maybe its time for jess Lockwood to have his own theme song. Maybe he can borrow one from another former young gun who seems to be out of service more than he is in service these days.. Umm… yea. A theme song for Jess.

His scores for the 5 ride events were  86.5, 91.5, 92, 91.75 and 91.25. Yes, he was the only rider to cover all his bulls.

Looking at his numbers, you knew he was here to ride and to win. Nothing more, nothing less. Ok, maybe also to kiss the girl in the middle of the area holding $1.3 million in checks…

Jess Lockwood gets the girl

He Gets The Girl Too!

Being a cowboy themed event, how else can a fairytale World Finals end without the cowboy riding off with the girl. In this case, its 2018 NFR Barrel Racing Champion and the newly married Miss Jess Lockwood. A.K.A Hailey Kinsel. Married on October 25, 2019

In Other World Final Highlights….

Robson Palermo PBR

Congratulations Robson Polermo

The Three-time World Finals event winner and native of Rio Branco, Brazil, came into the 2019 World Finals as an American Citizen!

In the opening ceremonies of Round One, the Three-time World Finals event winner stood atop the Can-Am Cage holding the American flag, hat over his heart and emotion in his eyes. While waving the American Flag – Palermo received his citizenship just one week ago, on Oct. 31

Champions Are Crowned At The 2016 PBR World Finals

November 6, 2016 By Jason Hetland

champ-sunday-round-recap-graphic

The time is running down for the top three bull riders in the world to go round after round to contend for the world champion title and for the other 37 to earn some go round and overall event money to take home.  Today we are too leaving Las Vegas after bringing you coverage of the 2016 Professional Bull Riders Built Ford Tough Series World Finals.  Although we are wrapping things up we could not do it without bringing you all the action from Championship Sunday’s final two rounds live from the T-Mobile Arena.

Last night was a night that the thousands of fans inside of the arena and the millions watching from their homes witnessed history being made and huge story lines that were unfolding before their very eyes.  After winning round four J.B. Mauney was the first cowboy to reach the 7 million dollar milestone and Canadian Ty Pozzobon set himself up nicely coming into today to be the first ever Canadian World Finals event winner.  Everything comes down to today to see who we crown with the world championships and the overall world finals event win.

Cooper Davis Earns The Top Score In Round Five

As the action began down on the arena floor for the final day of competition the sold out crowd inside of the T-Mobile Arena were full of anticipation as they all knew what would happen at the end of the day.  That being said, before the crowning and celebrations could happen down on the arena dirt there was still two rounds of bull riding action to take place to determine just that.  The first would be the fifth and final round that would determine who would be lucky enough to make it into the last Championship Round of the 2016 season.

Today you could feel ,along with the top 40 bull riders in the world, the pain and agony they are bringing with them into the final day here in Las Vegas.  Each and every one of these cowboys have been banged and beaten but are fighting through to finish out the event here on the last day.  In round five there were a total of 13 qualified rides but only one, Cooper Davis, would be able to call himself  the round winner with the top score after eight seconds.  Today he would match up with Dakota Rodeo/Chad Berger/Clay Struve/Miller’s Catfish John for a score of 91 points to head into the championship round riding on a high as the new number one man in the world!

round recap

Complete Breakdown Of Qualified Rides In Round Five Below:

Cooper Davis (91.00)                                                       Dakota Buttar (88.25)

Guilherme Marchi(88.00)                                             Eduardo Aparecido (87.75)

Ryan Dirteater (87.25)                                                   Marco Antonio Eguchi (87.25)

Tyler Harr (86.75)                                                           Wallace Vieira de Oliveira (86.50)

Chase Outlaw (85.00)                                                    Stetson Lawrence (84.25)

Kaique Pacheco (81.00)                                               Luis Blanco (71.75)

                                           Joao Ricardo Vieira (70.00)

After a grueling and taxing five rounds of competition here at the 2016 Professional Bull Riders Built Ford Tough Series World Finals the field was narrowed down to a very select few that would be invited back to the Championship Round.  The top fifteen combined scores were tallied and those bull riders with their names next to them were getting ready to compete against each other, either for the World Champion title or the overall Finals event championship title.  Either way the action was non-stop thrilling as the top 15 cowboys competed for the 1 million dollars prize money available following the Championship Round!

From the get go the fans inside of the T-Mobile Arena were treated to some intense action as the fifteen contestants atop the event leader board were matched up with the top fifteen bucking bulls from throughout the 2016 season.  After all was said and done it would be a total of three of those fifteen that would be able to weather the storm that was brewing to be able to make a qualified ride. After all was said and done it would be the “The Cherokee Kid” Ryan Dirteater that would outlast the other two for the top score after riding D&H Cattle Co/Buck Cattle Co/Bob & Jeri Adams’s Brutus for a huge 89.75 point ride and going a perfect 6-for-6, the only man to do so this year!

After all was said and and done and the hundred plus bulls were bucked the sold out crowd inside of the T-Mobile Arena was about to witness history being made once again here this year.  The crowning of the world championship titles, both bull rider and bucking bull, along with several other awards was going to take place atop of the shark cage in the center of the arena.  Our Rodeo Round Up team was live on the dirt to bring you all of the video action which you can see in the next couple days as we will be bringing you continuing coverage and follow-up stories throughout the weeks coming up.

Once the bulls were put away and the flood gates opened, the arena floor turned into a huge party atmosphere as thousands of fans and media stormed onto the arena floor in anticipation as to what was about to happen.  Although the world championship title came down to the last day, and quite figuratively, the last ride of the 2016 season a new world champion was about to be crowned.  Tonight was a night that we all were able to award Cooper Davis with a 1 million dollar check, a new Montana Silversmith world championship buckle and the title of the 2016 PBR World Champion!

I was able to catch up with the newly crowned 2016 Professional Bull Riders Built Ford Tough Series World Champion Cooper Davis following his in arena celebration and award presentations.  To say that this young man was lost for words would be a complete understatement but I think everyone can figure out why.  After winning the world title, one million dollars and a nice buckle to commemorate your year long efforts I would be over the moon and elated too!  Check out what he had to say to me below as we bring you a behind the scenes interview live from the press room inside of the T-Mobile Arena.

keep in touch

Today’s events are something that no one will soon forget as we crowned a brand new world champion after the closet race in the 23 year history of the Professional Bull Riders organization.  That being said, along with the world champion we also go to see the world finals event champion Ryan Dirteater being crowned along with 19 year-old Jess Lockwood claiming the rookie of the year title and Chad Berger earning the Stock Contractor of the Year title.  All in all it was a full week of festivities that we were honored to be a part of and bring to all of you.  Stay tuned for follow up stories regarding the other awards given out along with personal interviews from all those honored on the arena floor today!

Last Cowboy Standing Round Two

May 25, 2015 By cowboy

PBR Last Cowboy Standing Round 2

So we went from 35 of the best PBR Cowboys in the business with 15 VIP invitee’s (hot new riders who are coming up fast) and some of the best bulls to match on Friday… down to 25 riders on Saturday and some even more rank bulls to see who would be The Last Cowboy Standing..  In short, it would be a night that kept the Bull Fighters very busy.

It quickly went from 25 riders to 8 riders.  Then down to 2.   Stetson Lawrence and Ricardo Vieira.  The same way it ended for the Iron Cowboy Event.  Both riders failed to cover their bulls for the final 2 rounds and it wasn’t for a lack of trying. The bulls were just getting itchy to get it done and go home!

Per PBR Rules, with neither rider covering their bulls, the winner was chosen based on points for the night.  Ricardo Vieira’s higher combined round points after five rounds of competition gave him the win, a check for $180,000 plus 877.5 points. Stetson Lawrence takes a second place win and 525 world points.

PBR in Las Vegas Spring break

From The PBR

After a full five rounds of competition, No. 1 PBR (Professional Bull Riders) bull rider in the world Joao Ricardo Vieira won Last Cowboy Standing, brought to you locally by Sonic, part of the elite Built Ford Tough Series (BFTS), on Saturday night at MGM Resorts Village.

Last Cowboy Standing is the second PBR Major of the season, which includes 1.5 times more PBR world points than at a regular BFTS event and an increase in prize money.

Vieira posted the top ride of the event with 90.75 points atop Percolator (Jeff Robinson Bucking Bulls) during Round 3. Stetson Lawrence, who finished second in the event, also covered his bull in Round 3, putting up 86.5 points on I’m Gangster Too (Jeff Robinson/TNT Bucking Bulls). As such, the men then advanced to Round 4, but were unsuccessful in their attempts to make the 8-second mark. Seeing as neither rider made a qualified ride, Vieira and Lawrence advanced to the final round per Last Cowboy Standing rules.

Neither Vieira nor Lawrence were able to cover their bulls in Round 5 either, and per event rules, Vieira’s higher combined round points after five rounds of competition earned him the win. Vieira received a check for $180,000, including the $100,000 Bad Boy Mowers Bonus. It was the second such check he has accepted this year of this amount, having won the Iron Cowboy of the same format in Arlington, Texas, earlier this season.

This adds 877.5 points to Vieira’s world standing’s total, extending his lead to 1,002.5 points.

Lawrence gave Vieira a run for his money, going 3-for-5 on the night as well, for a second-place finish and 525 world points. Vieira placing first and Lawrence taking second are the same results seen during the first PBR Major, Iron Cowboy.

With a bull score of 46.5 out of 50 points, Little Red Jacket (J.A.R.S. Bucking Bulls/Gene Owen) was named the Salem NationaLease High-marked Bull in Las Vegas as he bucked off J.B. Mauney in 2.94 seconds during Round 3.

The final rounds of Last Cowboy Standing will air during a two-hour broadcast on CBS Television Network on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET.

For more information and behind-the-scenes details about Last Cowboy Standing, read Behind the Chutes by Justin Felisko on www.pbr.com.

Last Cowboy Standing is the last stop of the first half of the 2015 PBR Built Ford Tough Series.

Last Cowboy Standing Round One

May 23, 2015 By cowboy

PBR Last Cowboy Standing

Several years ago, the PBR started to have an event in Las Vegas called “The Last Cowboy Standing“.  This was a two-night event, meant more of a calendar filler for the PBR and their partner MGM Resorts than anything else.

Everything Changed!

But if you follow the Professional Bull Riders, you know nothing stays the same for long!!  This year they took the entire event and kicked it up a few notches. Ok, maybe more than a few notches!  They created a theme around the event, calling it “Cowboy Spring Break”.  Then they took it outside and built an entire 3 day weekend of partying around it.  Each night, after the bulls left and the dust settled, Montgomery Gentry, Gary Allan or The Band Perry kept the party going well into the night!

Now That’s What We Call: PBR – Vegas Style!

On Friday, the start of it all, we had a mild 5.4 earthquake followed by a little rain. Not your typical Vegas May day, but we survived it all and moved on… Can’t stop the PBR or their fans from having a good time in Las Vegas.  Especially with over $180,000 on the line and a pocketful of points to the ultimate winner.  The Last Cowboy Standing.

PBR Spring break Las Vegas

Round 1 of Last Cowboy Standing, Friday, May 22.

Professional Bull Riders (PBR) sophomore Gage Gay and Michael Lane, who notched his first ride on the Built Ford Tough Series (BFTS) on Friday night, split Round 1 of Last Cowboy Standing at MGM Resorts Village.

Last Cowboy Standing is the second PBR Major of the season, which includes 1.5 times more PBR world points than at a regular BFTS event and an increase in prize money with $180,000 guaranteed to the winner, including the $100,000 Bad Boy Mowers Bonus.

Gay and Lane both posted 88-point efforts atop Recovery Time (Paige Stout Bucking Bulls) and Gentleman Jim (J.A.R.S. Bucking Bulls/Gene Owen), respectively, to receive 120 world points apiece.

Current No. 1 bull rider in the PBR world standings Joao Ricardo Vieira earned 87.5 points on KISS Animalize (Jeff Robinson/B&M Bucking Bulls) to tie rookie Cooper Davis who covered Heavy Dose (Bar 3D Bucking Bulls) for third place. Each rider earned 67.5 points towards the world standings.

Current No. 2 rider in the world Matt Triplett picked up 87 points after making the 8-second whistle on LL Cool J (Tugger X Bucking Bulls/LL Cool J) to round out the Top 5 on the night for 45 world points.

Round 2 of Last Cowboy Standing is on Saturday, May 23.

Last Cowboy Standing is the headlining event of the PBR’s three-day Cowboy Spring Break celebration, which kicks off Memorial Day weekend on Friday, May 22, and runs through Sunday, May 24. Surrounded by concerts, pools, water entertainment, volleyball fun, VIP parties and more, Last Cowboy Standing is the central activity taking place within the Monster Energy Cowboy Festival, located in MGM Resorts Village.

Las Vegas is the 18th of 27 stops on the 2015 PBR Built Ford Tough Series schedule. The season will culminate with the PBR Built Ford Tough World Finals in Las Vegas on Oct. 21-25 when the 2015 PBR World Champion, the bull rider who earns the most points during the 2015 season, will receive the coveted World Championship belt buckle and a $1 million bonus.

May 6, 2015 By Jason Hetland

real time

Another exciting announcement regarding the Professional Bull Riders organization and the founders of the Real Time Pain Relief Products was made on the morning of May 1st, the day that the partnership became active, that will help both businesses from a marketing standpoint.  I am happy to see and hear about this partnership since I am an avid user of the product and have just become a independent vendor and district manager for it as well!   Real Time is a fantastic product and I think that the riders, workers and fans of the PBR will find out they prefer that as well compared to the other products on the market.

founder

Tim Flatt, founder of the Real Time Pain Relief Company, is very excited about this new partnership and released a statements saying, “PBR is a truly American brand and Real Time Pain Relief is incredibly excited to be a sponsor in 2015.”  He went on to say, “Since 1998, Real Time Pain Relief has been providing pain relief you can trust – and by sponsoring the premier bull riding organization in the world – we have an amazing opportunity to connect with both new and existing customers.”

This new partnership that he is talking about will include six events throughout the 2015 Built Ford Tough Series season as well as numerous chances to display and share the product with the PBR fan base.  In addition to the six events they are sponsoring the Real Time Pain Relief product will be sampled at every one of the Professional Bull Rider Built Ford Tough Series events including the 2015 PBR World Finals.

Was Selling The PBR The Right Choice For Its Riders And Fans?…

April 15, 2015 By Jason Hetland

PBR page picture

Some interesting news is coming in from Beverly Hill, California and the home of the Professional Bull Riders organization in Pueblo, Colorado.  With the PBR being one of the fastest growing sports in recent years many people have been trying to acquire the booming company and get their hands dirty with the years of success that the founding fathers of the Professional Bull Riders organization has become from a minimal investment 26 years ago.

img-wme-logo

This is exactly what happened today with the announcement that the Professional Bull Riders and IMG/WME agreed to terms for the company to acquire the PBR to expand its presence around the world.  The company’s CEOs, Ari Emanuel and Patrick Whitesell, made a statement about the acquisition by saying, “We’ve worked closely with the PBR for the last several years and share their passion for expanding the sport of bull riding globally. The resources across WME|IMG make the partnership a perfect match, combining top quality event production and broadcast rights.”

jim haworth

Jim Haworth, the CEO of the Professional Bull Riders organization, went on record to talk about the buy out by saying, “We are thrilled to join the WME|IMG family.”  He then went on to say, “The acquisition will allow our organization to continue its expansion worldwide, and bring our top-quality events to the masses. I look forward to broadening our reach and continuing as America’s fastest growing sport.”

Although the terms of the agreement have not been made public there are certain conditions that must be met before the acquisition is final.  it was stated on the PBR’s website that, “The transaction is subject to customary closing conditions, including antitrust regulatory approval, and is expected to close in May 2015.  Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.”

whats next

So the lingering question among the Professional Bull Riders organization’s fans is how will this impact ticket prices and the overall experience that their fans will enjoy at numerous live events around the globe.  The partnership is designed to make production and broadcasting even better than it has been in the past.  From what has been said so far today it is safe to say that the ticket prices and fan experience will not be interrupted but that remains to be seen.  You can read the entire press release on the PBR’s website by clicking the direct link here.

Well Respected PBR Stock Contractor Hurt In Horse Riding Accident

April 6, 2015 By Jason Hetland

prayer

Early reports are coming into the Rodeo Round Up team that a legend in the stock contracting business has been hurt in a horse riding accident near his home.  Prayers and messages of concern have been pouring in all day long via email messages, twitter comments, facebook messages and numerous other ways letting all those involved what the meaning of having a rodeo family is all about once again just as we do with any tragedy that presents itself to one of our own.

julio

Information has been circulating around many western lifestyle media outlets this morning concerning the status of stock contractor Julio Moreno.  Early reports say that Moreno was seriously injured in a horseback riding accident near Modesto, California.  The Rodeo Round Up has not been able to confirm the status of Moreno or the extent of his injuries as of this posting but have learned that surgery has been slotted for some time today to repair the injuries sustained.  We know that everyone is concerned for Julio Moreno and his entire family but the Rodeo Round Up will only report on what is fact and refuses to start any rumors as to what the status is.  As we find out more information and updates from reliable sources we will make sure that each and every one of you know that information as well.

**UPDATE**

Here is an update of Julio Moreno‘s condition from Kindra …. we now know what exactly happened and the extent of the damage. Continue to keep them all in your thoughts and prayers…

Hello All,

As some of you might already know (and for those who do not), Julio was in a horse wreck yesterday afternoon as we were finishing up the day of working cows. His horse flipped with him (it was a freak deal and nothing intentional on the horses part). Julio ended up fracturing his neck in multiple locations. — They took him to surgery last night around 10:30 PM and he was out of surgery at 6:30 AM. I just spoke with the surgeon and he is happy with the way the surgery turned out. Julio has been transported to ICU and I will see him after 8 AM.

I want to thank everyone for the well wishes and prayers. We appreciate them more than we can ever say. We are on a long road to recovery, but we all know how tough Julio is!

I’ll keep you all posted as I know more.

JB Mauney Has a Broken Jaw

PBR World Champion Bull Rider JB Mauney  was scheduled to talk with Jason Hetland today, but on his 93.25 round winning ride last night got a broken jaw.  That’s not why the cancelled the interview.  No, they canceled the interview to work on his shoulder!!

J.B. Mauney Keeps Breaking PBR Records!!

January 11, 2014 By Jason Hetland

Stop number two on the 2014 Professional Bull Riders Built Ford Tough Series season had a chance to be record breaking and the fans knew it with the ticket sales showing that as well.  Night number one inside the Allstate Arena in Chicago, Illinois did end up being record breaking for one of the tours most popular riders.

jb mauney

2013 PBR World Champion J.B. Mauney

2013 PBR World Champion J.B. Mauney came into the night with 15 consecutive rides which was tied with the long-standing record set years ago by bull rider Terry Don West.

Fans were on the edge of their seats as J.B. Mauney climbed over the bucking chutes for a chance to take the record away from the retired veteran cowboy.  The fans along with everyone associated with the event knew what was about to happen.  They all knew that in a mere 8 seconds history could and, in most people’s minds, would be made.

J.B. climbed aboard his bull Kiss Destroyer owned by Dakota Rodeo/Chad Berger/Clay Struve for what was to be an attempt at his 16th consecutive ride which would set yet another record for this young World Champion.  Once the chute gate opened the crowd erupted for 8 seconds of non stop action.  Once the whistle sounded the entire arena could not be calmed down and the noise could have blown the roof off the place.

Not only were the fans excited but every bull rider, bull fighter, announcer, crew and employee of the Professional Bull Riders were elated for the young American.  His ride was a great one as well with a nice first round score of 85.75 coming in for a well placed position going into night number two in Chicago.

Remember folks J.B. Mauney split the win last week in New York City and is sitting good to take home his second win of the season in as just as many tour stops.  I have a feeling that this year will once again be record-breaking for this young man if he can stay healthy throughout the entire year!!

Please go to  The Rodeo Round Up’s Facebook page to see video of his historic 16th consecutive ride.  I hope that you will remember this as I know J.B. and his entire family will for many years to come!
