Miss Rodeo America 2014 with Jason Hetland

December 11, 2013 By cowboy

The newly crowned Miss Rodeo America 2014 speaks with Jason Hetland in the WNFR Media Room. Paige Nicholson was the reigning Miss Rodeo Mississippi before being crowned Miss Rodeo America earlier this week.

Video Transcript

Jason:         Ladies and gentlemen, Jason Hetland back here with your 2013 Wrangler National Final Rodeo Live with the Rodeo Roundup with your brand new 2014 Miss Rodeo America, Page Nicholson. Page, congratulations.

Page:           Thank you so much, I’m so honored, so excited.

Jason:         You know, pretty big shoes to fill from previous years even just like last year, Shannay doing a fantastic job being an ambassador to the sport.

Page:           Absolutely. Shannay left a tall order for me to fill.

Jason:         She sure did but you know what, I have a feeling you’re going to be great. Being Miss Rodeo Mississippi for the last year’s really got you ready for this but did anything ever get you ready for the demand and the grueling time schedule of the Miss Rodeo America Pageant?

Page:           I was going to say the pageant itself is a test of how you’re going to do in your years as Miss Rodeo America because its only going to be the same from here; a lot of early mornings, a lot of interviews, a lot of rodeos, so I’m just really looking forward to it. But no, I don’t think there’s any way that you can prepare for that other than just to get ready for that grunt.

Jason:         Fantastic and you know, when they said you’re the new Miss Rodeo America Page Nicholson, what was going through your mind at that time?

Page:           I was just in disbelief. Its that moment that you dream about and you fantasize about and you’ve played it in your mind so many times but when it actually comes true, that feeling is absolutely indescribable.

Jason:         Coming into the Miss Rodeo America Pageant, did you have a full time job? Were you a college student? What was your previous life and what is life going to be now for the next 365 days?

Page:           Well I graduated from Mississippi State University in May and I had a summer internship which I was only at about half the time this summer because I spent a lot of time travelling, I was Miss Rodeo Mississippi, and then in September things really slowed down for me and I started my serious preparation for the Miss Rodeo America Pageant. For about the last three months, this has been all that I’ve done, prepare for the Miss Rodeo America Pageant.

Jason:         That’s fantastic. So many things happening and so many endorsements and things that are given to you in expectations. Are you ready?

Page:           Absolutely. I cannot wait to get out there and represent our sponsors and meet them and do the work that I’ve been preparing to do for years.

Jason:         Ladies and gentleman, Jason Hetland here with your brand new 2014 Miss Rodeo America, the beautiful and talented Page Nicholson.

Vegas offer to Continue to Host WNFR on the Table

December 10, 2013 By cowboy

Thomas and Mack Home to the WNFR

At today’s press conference PRCA Commissioner Karl Stressman gushed about the new television deal that will bring the WNFR to CBS sports network starting in 2014. But turned stern faced when asked why they are still in negotiations with Las Vegas Events to keep the WNFR in Las Vegas beyond 2014.

Even after 18 months of negotiations, he dodged a direct answer as to why no contract for something that seems pretty obvious to anyone outside the board room of the PRCA. Vegas loves the rodeo and the rodeo fans and contestants love Las Vegas. Everyone is making money and happy.

That begs the question; Where else would you seriously go that could possible do the NFR better Las Vegas??

Tough Enough to Wear Pink

December 9, 2013 By cowboy

Wrangler® Tough Enough to Wear Pink™ Founder Terry Wheatley formally announced Monday, December 9, 2013 in Las Vegas NV at Wrangler National Finals Rodeo (Wrangler NFR) in Las Vegas, the grassroots cowboy crusade called Tough Enough To Wear Pink has reached the $17 million fundraising mark to fight breast cancer. The benchmark, achieved over the past nine years of time since the campaign’s inception in 2004, was accomplished through the complex work of regional rodeos & western events across the country. The monies raised stay locally to benefit community breast cancer charities – which is the strength of the campaign’s success according to Wheatley.

“This is the ninth anniversary of Wrangler Tough Enough to Wear Pink at the Wrangler NFR & the crusade continues to gain momentum. Nobody could have imagined in that together we would raise millions of dollars for the cause,” asserted Terry Wheatley. A breast cancer survivor herself, Wheatley is an entrepreneur, wife & mother to professional rodeo competitors. She founded Wrangler Tough Enough to Wear Pink in 2004 with Karl Stressman, former director of special events for Wrangler & now commissioner of the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PCRA). Wrangler has-been involved since the beginning & continues to be the title sponsor of Wrangler Tough Enough to Wear Pink. Lacey Wheatley, Terry Wheatley’s daughter-in-law, is the director of Wrangler Tough Enough to Wear Pink & coordinates with rodeos & other non-rodeo organizations to create the pink-themed fundraisers. Her daughter Katie supports the social media outreach for the campaign.

About Wrangler® Tough Enough To Wear Pink?™ (TETWP™)

Wrangler® TETWP™ was created by entrepreneur & breast cancer survivor Terry Wheatley to bring the sport of professional rodeo & the western community together to rally against breast cancer. Since its inception in 2004, Wrangler TETWP has empowered rodeos in the U.S. & Canada to focus attention on the need for a cure. To date, the crusade has raised $17 million for breast cancer charities, most of which stays right in the local communities. The grassroots movement has inspired other sports communities to mount their own Wrangler TETWP campaigns, spreading a message of hope & support in that reaches beyond the rodeo arena to competitors, families & fans across America.
