Things Heat Up Under The Stars In Thackerville

After a fantastic performance from the top 35 bull riders in the world just one week ago the Professional Bull Riders Built Ford Tough Series returned to the great state of Oklahoma for the Winstar World Resort and Casino Invitational.  This event is a special one each and every year for all those involved since it is one of the only outdoor events throughout the year.  Here the cowboys must not only battle the 2,000 pound bulls that are placed in front of them but must also endure the hot and humid temperatures that the south presents in the summer months.  It is always interesting to see how the top bull riders in the world handle the added pressures that they must face head on when they roll into Thackerville, Oklahoma each year on their trek towards the PBR World Finals in Las Vegas.

If all of that was not enough to ramp up the nerves of the contestants here this weekend, there is another added pressure that the top 15 riders in the world standings have to face here as well this weekend.  Last night round one began but that was just the beginning of the journey as another 15/15 Bucking Battle was upon them at its conclusion.  That being said, the top 15 bull riders in the world standings would face up to four bulls here in two nights of action if they would advance to the championship round barring no re-ride opportunities.  That alone was on each and everyone’s minds both inside and outside of the arena.  All in attendance knew that this weekend’s event could have a major impact on how the world standings would look at the end of Sunday afternoon’s action!

The top 35 bull riders in the world came into the first round of action full of confidence and energy as the Professional Bull Riders Built Ford Tough Series rolled into The Winstar World Resort and Casino in Thackerville, Oklahoma.  As the action began the world standings were as close as they have been in recent memory at this point in the season and what happened could and would have an impact as to who would be within the top 35 and who would move into the top ten in the world standings.  Following the long summer break we know that a majority of these cowboys are coming back healthy and on top of their games and feeling good.  All the fans in attendance came into last night expecting to see many great rides as they did just two weeks ago in Nashville, Tennessee.

In round one the bull power that these cowboys faced was too much to handle for a huge chunk of the cowboys here this weekend.  That being said, round one gave us only five qualified rides and only ten more riders that would last at least five seconds before being bucked off in grand style.  The weather here in Thackerville must have given the bovine athletes here this weekend a little more energy as cowboys were flying through the air and getting beat up on a almost every ride basis.  Stormy Wing would be one of the five that would best their bucking bull competitor taking the win with a huge 88.50 point ride aboard Cord McCoy / K Bar C Bucking Bulls’ Call The Law.  His round one win would move him up one spot in the world standings from 11th overall to cracking into the top ten in the world heading into tonight’s second round of action!

After a grueling round one here in Thackerville the action was not done as Saturday Night Live was just beginning.  Throughout the year the fans packing into the venues across the country have the opportunity to see the top 15 bull riders in the world match up with 15 of the world’s best bucking bulls.  This extra round of action is called the 15/15 Bucking Battle where the world championship points are inflated and the chance to line their pockets with extra cash stares them in the face.  Only the top fifteen in the world standings at any given time are given the chance to compete in this special round as a reward for being one of the best bull riders in the world.  Tonight would be no different and would give those sitting in the stands many things to cheer about!

Once the bulls were loaded into the chutes and the television cameras were rolling it was time to see who would be able to outlast their bucking bulls and last the required 8 seconds needed to earn a qualified ride score in the 15/15 Bucking Battle.  After all was said and done it would be four of the fifteen that would be able to earn a qualified ride and inflate their world title points as the final march towards Las Vegas continues.  Tonight no one could beat the 89.25 point ride that Eduardo Aparecido put up atop Swinging C Cattle Co./Hodges Bucking Bulls’ Honey Hush for the 150 points that went along with it!

Now that the cobwebs are shook out and the top 35 bull riders in the world are refocused it is time to look ahead to round two that awaits them here later on this evening.  After these cowobys put up a dismal performance just 24-hours ago I look to see these guys come back with authority to regain their swagger and composure to have one of the best round performances we have seen this season as round two and the championship round happen a few hours from now live from Thackerville, Oklahoma!  The Rodeo Round Up team will be there to cover all of the action and bring you the shots directly from the arena courtesy of our friends at Rokin’ K Photography so stay tuned for continued coverage live from Oklahoma one week from now!
