Records Set And Careers Set In Motion In This Week’s PRCA Update!

news and notes prca

All eyes are on the huge rodeo happening in Houston as many of the top contestants in each event have made Houston a stop on their packed rodeo road once again this year.  As most are focusing on that event we can not forget all the other events happening around the country that help all the contestants in the Professional Rodeo Cowboy Association make enough money to have a chance to be qualified for the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo in December.  Records were set and careers were launched at this year’s Glen Rose PRCA Championship Rodeo!

PRCA Steer Wrestler Justin Shaffer

This cowboy may not have much name recognition throughout the country with the fans of the PRCA but he is doing everything in his power to change that by making runs inside the arena that no one will soon forget.  Shaffer is just a mere 20 years-old but is quickly learning what it takes to make the big show in Vegas.  This last week at the Glen Rose PRCA Championship Rodeo he put down an amazing 3.3 second run to win the event and set a new arena record that will quite possibly last for many years to come, thus, making a huge name for himself early on in the 2015 season!

After winning only $8,319 in the entire 2014 rodeo season he knows he has to hit the rodeo road much harder this year to have a chance to be a part of the 2015 Wrangler National Finals Rodeo.  He had this huge win which is his seventh of his short 3-year professional career with five of those wins coming with sub 4 seconds runs.  After his Glen Rose record setting win he said, “”I wasn’t thinking about an arena record when I got there, but it sure feels good to draw a good steer and put up a time like that.”  I have a feeling that this cowboy will be one to watch throughout the 2015 season!

Another young Texas rodeo star has gained some notable fame over the last couple of weeks with some huge wins is bareback rider Taylor Price.  His winning streak started early on in February with a win at the Los Fresnos PRCA Rodeo on the 8th.  Along with that win he also won the Glen Rose PRCA Championship Rodeo title with an 84 point ride while claiming a second place finish at the Matagorda County Fair & Rodeo in Bay City, Texas.  All the winning this cowboy has done shot him up in the overall Windham Weaponry High Performance PRCA World Standings moving from 45th all the way up to 34th!

Price has also been on a winning spree outside of the Professional Rodeo Cowboy Association events too after qualifying for the RFD-TV’s The American event inside AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas that was held March 1st.  Not only did this cowboy qualify for his chance to win a part of the 1 million dollars up for grabs but he did just that after winning the bareback riding event.  There were two other “qualifiers” that won their respective events as well but still ended up being a payday that would change his life forever.  After all was said and done it was Price, Reese Reimer and K.C. Jones who would each split the 1 million dollars equally letting each cowboy take home a cool $430,000 payday for their efforts!
