Kansas City Sets The Tone For Next Week’s Iron Cowboy Major In Texas

After an action packed night one here in Kansas City, it was time to turn our attention to the task at hand as Sunday afternoon rolled around here inside of the Sprint Center.  The sold-out crowd that filtered in on Championship Sunday was full of energy and ready to cheer on their favorite athletes as the race to the event win comes down to the wire.  Last night there were twelve of the best bull riders in the world that would manage to make it to the eight-second buzzer to carry a score into today’s final rounds.

Today’s second round will feature many bovine athletes that we have either never seen or rarely seen on the Built Ford Tough Series.  This will make for an exciting round two that will offer many chances for these top 35 bull riders to earn a qualified ride and advance to the championship round later in the day.  These rides are needed to give these cowboys the confidence they need heading into the Iron Cowboy major event next weekend in Arlington, Texas at the legendary AT&T Cowboy Stadium!

The competition level inside of the arena this afternoon was amped up after just twelve qualified rides in round one, less than 24-hours ago.  The look of the roster has changed after the first cut of the season and one of those men that are new on the tour started off his debut event in grand style.  Claudio Montanha Jr. started his BFTS run with 84.50 points and 5 world title race points in his first round on this elite tour.  The question is now if he can continue his path and qualify for his first championship round in his first career Built Ford Tough Series event.

Coming into the second round here this afternoon many of the 35 bull riders in the locker room were left battered and bruised after a horrific round one as the bucking bulls took their toll on these professional athletes.  Many questions remained on if all would come back or if some would not make it to round two.  That being said, there were 12 of the remaining 30 bull riders that came to round two that would earn a score and set the stage for the championship round.  This afternoon the man on top of the field would be Rubens Barbosa after earning 87.25 points aboard Owens/Wyatt’s Chute Boss for the round two win catapulting him to the championship round!

Once the two qualification rounds were concluded it was time to focus in on the top fifteen cowboys from the event as the championship round was set to begin.  The first two rounds were hard on the bull riders but that allowed for the bovine athletes to prove their worth and gain some notoriety among the loyal PBR fans as well as the Director of PBR Livestock, Coday Lambert.  The bovine athletes did not disappoint as the bull power in the championship round was some of the strongest we have seen all year long!

As the action began it was made known early on that it would not be an easy task to earn a qualified ride in the championship round of the Kansas City Invitational.  When the last chute gate opened and the bull rider made the fans inside of the arena it would cheer it would be 7 out if the 15 that would earn a qualified ride in the championship round.  After the dust settled it would be Shane Proctor who would stand taller than the rest after riding J.A.R.S Bucking Bulls/Gene Owen’s Coopers Comet to the eight-second buzzer and an 89.75 point score to win the championship round!
